Abi Clarke
In the olden
days, i.e. Early 2020. In the past comedians could have hoped to tour across
the UK for many years before getting invited to join a television panel and
then selling an arena tour. It's difficult. Comedy is one form of art that can
continue to perform in front of an audience live. However, we won't be seeing
arena tours anytime soon. One Bristol comedian has been able to reach a huge
worldwide audience during lockdown via social media. Abi Clarke wasn't aiming
to become an internet celebrity. Abi Clarke is a young woman of 24 who lives in
Henbury with her parents made her first online video to "build an online
community of like-minded people who would appreciate my stand-up comic
act." "I had been performing a number of gigs throughout the region
of Devon to guys who were in their 50s and were not so keen on my Love Island,
Sims and Twilight references. I then went online with the hopes of finding
young women who were able to relate to me." Abi has since been performing
at Lakota Gardens, as locks have eased but continues to post her videos to
Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she's recently surpassed 500,000
followers), finding ideas from sources as diverse as her job at the cafe,
conversations with a stranger, or the girl-group chat, and writing everything
down on her phone.
